Welcome
This is an organization working to Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR) DC area feral cats.
Experts estimate that there are 70 million feral cats living in the United States. In the DC area alone, there are thousands of ferals. Some ferals are a result of irresponsible people who don't want to/are unable to take care of their house cats and set them free to fend for themselves. Many ferals, however, have been born into the colonies and have never had human contact. Because they lack human contact, they revert to a wild state and camp out where there is food, water, and shelter. Each unaltered female produces 2-3 litters per year of 3-4 kittens each. Sadly, many unmanaged colonies are euthanized by Animal Control once the populations get out of control.
The goal of this organization is to help control the problem of overpopulation. There are many people who are managing colonies by feeding and providing shelter for these large colonies of cats. During these tough economic times, they are still spending their hard-earned money on food for these cats. Sterilizing gets put on the back-burner due to the cost and effort to trap all of the cats.
Controlling the problem comes with a monetary cost. It costs $45 to sterilize, vaccinate, ear tip, and deworm each cat. Many colonies have upwards of 40 cats! We need your help! Please visit the donations page for more information.
